Why the iPad Will Redefine Our View of RIAs

Preface

This post was originally written for insideRIA.com but was turned down because of my loose interpretation of what a RIA is. First I want to be very clear, I am not upset over the rejection at all. I have nothing but love and respect insideRIA. Not only have they taken great care of me over the past year but let me post almost anything that is on my mind. It is ironic because I am probably the biggest trouble maker over there (here and here) but they still keep me around and I am very grateful for that.

The reason why I bring up that this post was rejected is to really open up the floor to anyone who can give me a real definition of what a RIA is? To me it is a BS term for a made up concept that never really saw its potential. Just like everyone throws around the word “interactive” like it adds some kind of meaning to most of the crap that litters the web these days. That being said I thought about modifying this article since I no longer had to hold back most of my feeling about Flash and Adobe but decided to keep it as is for posterity. I did remove the pictures because lets face it, it’s just fluff. Please comment heavily if you like it, don’t like it, think I don’t know what I am talking about, or simply submit your interpretation of what a RIA is or has become.

I find it especially sickening to see people grab the pitch forks and go on a shouting/blaming witch hunt. I was doing alright until I read this post by Adrian Ludwig on Adobe’s Flash Platform Blog. The following is what I wanted to leave as a comment but it grew a little long for that:

What The Interface!!!

For anyone who was not following Ted or me yesterday on Twitter you may have missed me ranting about my deep frustration and hatred for flash’s CSS parser. I wound up trying to explain myself in small spurts of 144 characters, hardly a way to have a real conversation on a serous subject. I felt that my blog would be a better outlet to finish my thoughts.
