FDT Better on Macs Now?
June 23rd, 2008

Had an interesting conversation with someone over at FirstBorn about FDT and my recent abandonment for FlexBuilder 3. Turns out FDT has been updated and supposedly fixes a lot of the performance issue I complained about. Here is a post briefly talking about the update as well. I am willing to take FDT back in but only if she treats me right this time. I am also going to see how FlexBuilder and FDT play together just incase I want to move between the two.
Also check out this post on FDT’s blog from Nico Zimmermann’s lecture at FlashBelt. There is a PDF with some good hints and tips for FDT and AS 3 workflows. Looks like it was a really good session.

FDT is a beautiful thing. esp since they fixed the Mac issues, but it doesn’t play well with fb3. I’ve found it impossible to use fb3 with FDT installed. FDT starts trying to build your Flex projects even in the fb perspectives amongst other strangeness. It’s really an either - or situation. You have to deactivate FDT (From Help/Software Update/ Manage Configuration) while using fb, but you can use FDT with fb still active and it seems to be ok.

Sitting in the airport about to fly back to NYC and was just playing around with the mac update for FDT 3. I forgot how much I missed FDT and the I can already see a noticeable speed increase. Mind you I am using a vanilla install of Eclipse but everything is really snappy. Looks like they did a good job and I will do a full post when I spend this week putting FDT back through its paces.

[...] is a really really sad day but I am declaring FDT 3 DOA. I have been patiently trying to run the updated Mac version on a vanilla build of Eclipse with no other plugins and it has not been fun. I have prepared a few [...]
