FlashBaker (Admin Panel)
August 6th, 2007
I have been really busy building out a new Admin Panel for my client’s Flash sites using cakePHP.
I have been using cakePHP for a little over a year now and I have been very happy with the framework so I decided to go with that. It is also a great companion to Flash sites that need an html alternative and XML feeds for data. Right now I am calling this web app FlashBAKER and will release a scaled down version of the app as Open source. Here is a list of features I have been working on:
- 1. File Upload and Management
- 2. FTP drop box (You can FTP files into a drop box on the server and the application will move the files into the correct directory as well as add them into the Database for use with Galleries)
- 3. Photo Gallery support with Images and SWFs.
- 4. Site maintenance option to take the site off line while performing updates.
- 5. Dual Flash and HTML display layers to allow seamless site data delivery to any visitor on multiple platforms.
- 6. User accounts with Client asset tagging to allow file sharing for different users. When client logs in they see only the files you have “attached” to their account.
- 7. File commenting for detailed descriptions and client feedback.
- 8. Auto thumbnail generation for images uploaded and FTPed into the application.
- 9. Web 2.0 goodies like drop and drag reordering of sections, galleries, and files.
- 10. Flash setting file generator. Allows automation of config file used for flash website and creates a clean XML for you with correct variable typing. Supports String, Number, Array and XML.
A full Demo and screen shots ares coming soon!

I am going to try and put up a demo for people to see very soon. I actually have a few sites running on it right now napkinnotebook.com, amiesplacefoundation.org, bfreedesign.com and iliketodream.com. Currently I am selling it to clients as part of building them a flash/html site.
